From Dream to Reality

“Show me my way in life and I will build you a shrine.” – St. Jude Founder Danny Thomas to St. Jude Thaddeus, patron saint of hopeless causes

More than 50 years after saying this prayer, Danny Thomas’s dream continues to inspire people to give. Since its opening in 1962, St. Jude has become a symbol of hope and a second chance at life for the critically ill children of the world. The mission of St. Jude has always been to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. And remarkably, we have been able to increase childhood cancer survival rates from less than 20 percent to more than 70 percent overall.

St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and more than 70 countries, all of whom are treated without regard to race, religion, creed, or ability to pay. And because of the generous contributions of loyal supporters like you, our Partners In Hope, St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance and families without insurance are never asked to pay.

This is why all of us at St. Jude – from the children and their families, to the doctors and scientists, to countless other dedicated individuals – welcome you to our family.
